While laminate flooring is known for its durability, it is not recommended to place heavy appliances directly on the freshly installed laminate flooring. Although the flooring may appear stable, the weight and constant pressure from heavy appliances can potentially cause damage to the planks.

    Protecting Laminate Flooring

To protect your laminate flooring from heavy appliances, it is advisable to use furniture pads or glides underneath the appliance’s legs. These pads distribute the weight more evenly and provide a cushioned barrier between the appliance and the flooring.

Another option is to use plywood or a large, sturdy board as a base for the appliance. This spreads the weight over a larger area and reduces the risk of indentation or damage to the laminate flooring. Always ensure that the base is slightly larger than the appliance to prevent any edges from digging into the flooring.

Wait for the Flooring to Settle

To further safeguard your laminate flooring, it is recommended to wait at least 24 to 48 hours after installation before placing heavy appliances on it. This waiting period allows the flooring to settle and fully adhere to the underlayment and subfloor.

While laminate flooring is a popular choice for homeowners due to its durability and ease of installation, it is important to exercise caution when placing heavy appliances on freshly installed laminate flooring. It is advisable to use furniture pads, glides, or plywood as a protective barrier to prevent any damage. Additionally, waiting for the flooring to acclimate and settle before adding heavy appliances will help ensure the long-term stability and integrity of your laminate flooring.
